An online webinar titled Understanding Biodiversity in Times of Climate Change will take place on Friday, 24 April 2026, 11:00–13:00 CET. Organised within the BioClima project, the webinar will focus on climate change impacts on biodiversity and the use of data and Earth observation to support research and informed decision-making. The event will be held online via the AGORA OGC platform and is open to researchers, policy makers, public authorities and technical experts.
Registration is now open. REGISTER HERE: https://1url.cz/YeKOZ
Presenters
- Zhanzhang Cai – Researcher at the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science, Lund University (Sweden), working on satellite-based Earth-observation methods, vegetation dynamics, and time-series remote-sensing analyses supporting climate- and biodiversity-monitoring initiatives such as BioClima.
- Kristin Böttcher – Senior Researcher at the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), Finland, specialising in remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and environmental monitoring.
- Tomas Mildorf – BioClima project coordinator and a Project Manager at the Department of Geomatics, University of West Bohemia (Czech Republic), leading the international EU–China initiative focused on AI-enabled climate and biodiversity monitoring using harmonised Earth-observation and in-situ data systems.
- Stefanie Lumnitz – Environmental Observations Policy Officer at the European Commission and seconded expert from the European Space Agency. She works at the intersection of Earth observation, Earth system science, and European climate and biodiversity policy, focusing on transforming data, AI, and digital innovation into decision-relevant knowledge at European and global levels.
- David Patterson – Climate and Biodiversity Coordinator at the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Secretariat, where he works on integrating geospatial data and Earth-observation information into global climate and biodiversity decision-support initiatives.
- Dr. Yue Dou – Assistant Professor at the Faculty of ITC Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, University of Twente. Her research explores the dynamics of land-use systems and their implications for biodiversity and sustainability, with a focus on integrating biodiversity into plural land-use scenarios and value-chain approaches supporting accountability and sustainable solutions.
- Ionuț Șandric – Associate Professor at the Faculty of Geography, University of Bucharest, specialising in GIS, Earth observation, and AI-based spatial modelling for natural-hazard and environmental monitoring.
We would also greatly appreciate support in disseminating this event through institutional channels (websites, newsletters, social media, mailing lists, etc.). Broad outreach will be key to ensuring strong participation and visibility for the project.
The detailed programme will be continuously updated on the event registration page.
