A Special Issue of the journal Sustainability invites contributions focused on the use of GeoAI and GeoLLM to support local and regional sustainability.
Recent advances in geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) and geospatially grounded large language models (GeoLLMs) are opening new possibilities for place-based governance. These technologies enable the integration of Earth observation data, sensor networks, spatial databases, and semantic models into advanced analytical workflows and human-centred decision support systems.
This Special Issue aims to showcase both methodological innovations and real-world applications that transform geospatial data into actionable intelligence. Particular emphasis is placed on supporting evidence-based decision-making for municipalities, regions, and public authorities.
🔍 Scope and Topics
The Special Issue welcomes contributions addressing:
- GeoAI and GeoLLM approaches in spatial contexts
- Advanced GIS and spatial analysis
- Digital twins and semantic geospatial infrastructures
- Earth observation and integrated data workflows
- Natural language interfaces to GIS
- Explainable AI in geospatial applications
- Spatial decision support systems
Applications may include:
- Climate adaptation and resilience
