About the University of Bucharest
The University of Bucharest is one of Romaniaโs leading academic institutions, with the Faculty of Geography playing a key role in research on geosciences, landscape dynamics, environmental risk, and ecosystem management. The UB team combines scientific modeling, field monitoring, earth observation, and geospatial technologies to address the challenges of biodiversity loss, climate change and natural hazards, particularly in protected and vulnerable landscapes such as the Carpathians and the Danube region.
With expertise in both applied and theoretical geography, UB is at the forefront of integrating geo-spatial data, citizen science, and policy evaluation.
Role in BioClima
UB leads efforts in case study implementation and spatial assessment of climate and biodiversity indicators. Their team contributes to the design of monitoring strategies and evaluation frameworks tailored to both urban and rural protected areas.
Main contributions include:
โ
UAV-supported monitoring
โ
AI and EO applied for ecosystem monitoring
โ
Assessment of land cover change in Natura 2000 sites
โ
Stakeholder engagement in conservation planning
โ
Scaling of methodologies across biogeographical regions
Drawing on experience from projects like LIFE ROsalia, WildPop, and SCENT, UB ensures that BioClimaโs approaches are grounded in local ecological realities while connected to European-scale goals.
๐ The University of Bucharest brings spatial intelligence and local ecological insight to BioClima โ protecting biodiversity where it matters most.
